Our March Grant Winner: Mike Jacobs’ Classroom Freedom!

Mike Jacobs has a passion for teaching.  As a high school Physical Science teacher at Calvin Christian High School for 9 years, he has seen a lot of new technology.  Mike likes to take new technology and find ways to use it in his classroom.  Mike has a problem though… In using technology, he is often tied to his computer at the front of the classroom.  He wants to be able to wander throughout the classroom while he teaches and give individual help, instead of being anchored to his computer.  To do this, Mike needs a 7-inch tablet and the App called Pocket Cloud, which will give him the ability to control his desktop and projector, remotely.

“This will allow me to be able to teach from anywhere in the classroom”, Mike says.  ”I will be able to give individual help to students who need it while still being able to direct what is being presented and what is going on in the classroom.”

In addition, Mike plans to use his tablet while out of his classroom doing labs.  ”We often do lab experiments that require more space outdoors or in our gymnasium.”

The Awesome Foundation awarded Mike two tablets for his classroom that will feed his passion for teaching others.  What will you do with your passion?
